Varsity Girl’s Basketball: Dripping Springs vs Austin HS

Game Date: 1/12/2024
Location: Dripping Springs HS

The Dripping Springs girls’ basketball team is struggling this year. They’ve had a lot of turnover, and loss of players. They seem to be in a rebuilding year, and it was apparent in Friday night’s loss to Austin.

The Tigers struggled from the beginning, and as time went on, fell farther behind. In the end, Austin HS won by a score of 46-27.

In spite of their losing record this year, this Dripping Springs team shows a lot of potential. They are hardworking, never gave up, and I could see the signs of quality coaching – although they are a young, and inexperienced team. I hope these girls don’t get discouraged by their losses, because there is much to be learned from losing. It’s not only about the final score (although it is fun to win), but about learning to play as a team, and developing skills that will help you succeed in life.

Congratulations to Austin HS on their win!

Varsity Football: Lake Travis vs Westlake: Too Little, Too Late

December 3, 2023 – Yesterday’s quarterfinal playoff between Lake Travis and Westlake High School was a great game! The score remained 0-0 through almost the entire first half, with Westlake scoring with only a couple minutes left on the clock before halftime.

Now, I will say, both of these teams played their hearts out, but in the end, Westlake had just enough to hold on for a 21-14 win. Lake Travis came alive in the 4th quarter, with 2 touchdowns to narrow the gap – but it was truly too little, too late.

Congratulations to Westlake High School for the win and making it to the state semifinal round to face North Shore next weekend. The game will be played back here (at the Pfield in Pflugerville) on Saturday, December 9 at 3pm.

Varsity Football: Dripping Springs Stuns Judson

Game Date: 11/18/2023
UIL 6A Area Football Playoff

Dripping Springs trailed Judson for almost the entire game, and came back to score 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to pull ahead and hold on for the win.

Judson’s defense was on their game for the first 3 quarters, but the real story is that Dripping Springs held Judson to no points in the final quarter. I’m not sure who was considered the underdog in this game, but for the first half (and a little more) I thought Judson was going to win the game. At least I was surprised that Dripping Springs was able to come back and win the way they did. Congratulations to the Dripping Springs Tigers!

Varsity Girls Basketball – Westlake @ Dripping Springs

This game started out with Dripping Springs taking an early lead, but by halftime, Westlake had secured a 1o point lead, 24-14. After all was said and done, Westlake ended up winning 55-19, holding Dripping Springs virtually scoreless in the second half. It was a fun game, and the Lady Tigers played with heart, but just didn’t have the skill or strength to beat a team like Westlake.

Congratulations to the Westlake Lady Chaparrals for a very well-played game! Here are a few photos from the action, more can be found at MaxPreps or SmugMug. There’s also some photos from the JV game at SmugMug which was played just before the varsity game.

Varsity Boys Basketball – Lake Travis @ Dripping Springs

Last night’s game between powerhouse Lake Travis and newcomer to 6A basketball, Dripping Springs, was a nail biter, to say the least. The game was fairly close throughout, but in the end, Lake Travis came out on top by a final score of 52-41. Dripping Springs had a slight lead at the end of the first half, but in the second half, and especially in the last period, Lake Travis poured on the heat and finished strong to take the victory.

Varsity Boys Basketball – Dripping Springs vs Akins

Last night’s contest between Dripping Springs and Akins was a fantastic game! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but both teams performed extremely well, resulting in a very tight game, especially in the second half. At the outset, Akins held a slight lead, and by halftime Dripping Springs had narrowed the gap to 2 points. In the second half the score remained extremely close, and in the end Dripping Springs pulled it out 78-76. It was a great game – and both teams played hard. Congratulations to Dripping Springs for pulling out the win!

Varsity Girls Basketball – Wimberley vs Fredericksburg

Last night’s game between rivals Wimberley and Fredericksburg was a high energy performance by both teams, but Fredericksburg dominated through most of the game. Both teams played extremely well, and this was a very exciting game with lots of fast breaks and steals. The Fredericksburg girls showed their polish, and stamina, and after it was over, they won easily, 75-36. Congratulations to the Lady Billies on an impressive win last night!

Varsity Football – Wimberley vs Cuero (Texas 4a Semifinal Playoffs)

Friday’s game between Wimberley and Cuero was definitely an exciting matchup! Both teams have powerful offenses, but in the end, it was Wimberley coming out on top, 42-36.

Cuero actually led most of the game, but Wimberley sparked some good offense in the second half, and their defense held Cuero to only 9 points in the final 2 quarters.

All in all, a very exciting game. Congratulations to Wimberley as they win a trip to the state championship in Dallas on December 16.

Varsity Softball – Dripping Springs vs East View

Friday’s 5A Bi-District playoff was a fine performance by the Dripping Springs Tigers. Pitcher, Jordan Cox, had a perfect game. Overall, the Tigers played very well to take the series 2-0 and move to the next round of the playoffs. Congratulations Tigers!

Texas Beef Initiative Team Roping

Today I attended a team roping event at the Dripping Springs Ranch Park (have I said how privileged I feel to live so close to such a fantastic facility?) and I have to say it was very exciting. I am always impressed at the skill these riders have, and how they have a special bond with their horses, and today was no different. Very amazing to see – and this group has a pretty amazing story as well. The Texas Beef Initiative actually donates beef to local area food banks to help provide food for those in need around us!

I’ve provided a link above or navigate to http://www.donatebeef.org to learn more about the good they do in our community helping those in need.

Also, check out what else is happening at the Ranch Park in Dripping Springs on their website: www.drippingspringsranchpark.com or their Facebook page.

I’ve seen individual roping at rodeos, but team roping is where 2 cowboys work together to rope cattle. The first rider lassos the head/horns, and the second attempts to snag the back leg with his rope (at least that’s what appeared to be happening to a novice like me). One rider can easily handle a calf, but for larger cattle, the team makes things easier. Here are some photos of the exciting action today.

If you’re ever in Dripping Springs, and you see horse trailers parked at the Ranch Park, you can bet something like this is going on inside. Or, better yet, check the Ranch Park calendar and plan to come out some weekend to catch something unique to Texas! And, if you can support the Texas Beef Initiative, please do – you’ll be helping to feed our neighbors in need.
